Obituary of Jacob Robert Nemerson

Jacob "Jack" Nemerson, of Monticello passed away peacefully on May 16, 2011 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. He was 82. Son of the late Dr. Nathan Nemerson and Sara Levin Nemerson, he was born on April 24, 1929 in Sullivan County. Jack lived the first 14 years of his life in South Fallsburg, he and his family then moved to Monticello where he lived until his passing. After graduating from New York University in 1950 Jack enlisted in the Army until 1953. He came back to Monticello and on April 20, 1958 married his sweetheart Anita Scherr. They had two children, a son, Joel and a daughter, Sharon. Jack owned and operated an oil delivery business, after which he went to work for Sullivan County Social Services as a social worker. He retired from there after 17 years of service to Sullivan County. In addition to his parents Jack was predeceased by his loving wife, Anita Scherr Nemerson; a son, Joel Nemerson and his sister, Shayne Stern. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Henning and her husband, Thomas; his brother- in-law, Frank Stern; his dear friend, Myrna Goldsmith and many friends. Graveside services will be held today, May 18, 2011 at 11:30 am at the Cold Spring Road Synagogue Cemetery, Thompsonville road, Monticello. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz will officiate.
