It is with a heavy heart that I say rest in peace to my one
and only Uncle. Thru the years we have had a special bond between us. You were certainly blessed with good health and longevity. As you told me many times you had
a wonderful family in which you were proud of all of them. My deepest sorrow goes out to my one and only Aunt Esther, my cousins Michelle, Shari, and Nelson and their
whole family.
With much love and my deepest sympathy.
Your Niece/Cousin, Darlene

As a son in law I can attest to Rocky’s honesty, kindness and love he has shown to his wife, children, grand children and son’s in law in whatever capacity he could. I am grateful for the visits we have had with him over those years from family events to just witnessing precious moments of my children enjoying a game of go-fish with him. I have had the utmost respect for his contributions to his country and his community. To his character as well as his health he was strong to the end, whether it was splitting wood or blowing snow in recent years. We will miss you Rocky. With Love…..Larry

Nelson, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of sorrow. I remember you talking about your father several times during those long-ago high school days, and was struck by your obvious pride and love. May your memories be a blessing and strength to you.

On December 7, 1941, at Schofield Barracks, 3 miles north of Pearl Harbor, my father saw and heard the Japanese warplanes begin to strafe Schofield Barracks. He quickly ran and hid in an underground sewer culvert in order to save his life. He waited there until the attack was over, 4 hours later.
Very quickly, everybody on Oahu started preparing for a Japanese amphibious landing and airborne troop drop. Over the next few months, my father patrolled Diamond Head and the beaches of Oahu with his rifle scope, looking out for Japanese ships and planes. A few months after that, my father was seriously injured, sustaining a broken back during maneuvers. He couldn't walk. He was taken onto a ship bound for the mainland. As he waited day after day, and night after night, finally, at night, he saw the lights of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco Harbor, and said, "America! I'm home!"
