Obituary of Irving Provda

IRVING PROVDA NOVEMBER 23, 1924-FEBRUARY 11, 2012 SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY Irving Provda died peacefully on Saturday, February 11, surrounded by family and friends. Born November 23, 1924, he served in the US Navy Seabees during WWII in the Pacific. He was a well known Pastry Chef in the Catskill Mountains' "Borscht Belt" hotels where he was known as "Irving the baker". Although born in NYC he lived most of his life in the "Mountains". In later life, as a "Snow Bird", when most of his age would wind down, he continued to work in baking and also discovered a newfound passion for physical exercise and Square Dancing. He was an active member of the Jewish War Veterans and a member of B'nai B'rith. He leaves behind by his loving wife, Rosalie and children, including daughter Susan, Stepdaughters Marilyn Winer and Miriam Birmiel, sons Barry, Alan and Stepson Irving Kaplan, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Millie. Funeral services will be held at Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, New York, on Tuesday, February 14th at 11:30 am. Burial will be in Temple Sholom Cemetery Southwoods rd. Monticello. Shiva will be observed at the home of Janet and Irving Kaplan in South Fallsburg and continued at family homes in New Jersey. Donations can be made to South Fallsburg Hebrew Association or the charity of ones choice. Funeral arragements by Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. Monticello.
