Obituary of Sheila Wolpin

Sheila Wolpin Of Lauderhill, Florida April 9, 1917-February 13, 2012 94 years old Sheila Wolpin was never daunted by challenges, and her accomplishments can be measured not only by a notable career in nursing and hospital administration but also by the large number of family, friends and former employees who loved and respected her. She was born in Mountaindale, NY, on April 9, 1917 to Benjamin Neimark and Naomi Meinemer Neimark and died in Lauderhill, FL, in the early morning hours of February 13, 2012 at the age of 94. Sheila left home at the age of 17 to pursue a career in nursing in New York City. Fortunately she returned to Sullivan County to become Director of Nurses at the Monticello Hospital where she met her late husband, Benjamin Wolpin of South Fallsburg, NY. While successfully raising her family, she studied at Teachers College of Columbia University to obtain first her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and then her Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration. She steadily advanced in her career to become Vice President at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center in the Bronx, NY and served on several committees of the American Nurses Association. It is a tribute to her management skills and her concern for the welfare of others, that many of her former employees wrote, called and visited her until the time of her death. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Wolpin and his wife, Rona, of Philadelphia; her daughter, Norma Wolpin of Margate, FL; two grandsons and their wives, Brian and Anne Wolpin and Eric and Emily Wolpin; and four great grandchildren, Sophia, Ben, Lucy, and Owen. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 16, at 12:30pm, at the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association cemetery, on Marsh Road, in Glen Wild, NY. Donations may be made in her name to the American Lung Association, the National Organization of Rare Disorders or the National Jewish Health Research Organization in Denver. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home of Monticello.
