Obituary of Bernard V. Wainer

Kingston, NY 

Bernard V. Wainer, 95, of Kingston, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. The son of the late Nathan and Minnie (Friedman) Wainer, Bernard was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 18, 1928.

Bernard was the former owner of Rondout Valley Publishing Company and publisher of the Ellenville Press.  He was a member and past President of the Noonday Club.  Bernard formerly volunteered at the Ellenville Regional Hospital and AdventHealth Hospital Winter Garden.  He served during the Korean War as a Corporal in the armor division of the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky.  Bernard served as a member of the Ellenville Board of Trustees.   Bernard enjoyed flying his airplane, traveling the country, woodworking and building model airplanes.

 

He is survived by his two daughters, Leslea Mendrysa (Mark); and Marcy Pravetz (Kenneth); grandson Jason Wainer; granddaughter Rachel Sawyer (Mason); granddaughter Zoe Couse (Keegan); grandson Shawn Pravetz; sister-in-law Phelene Lonstein; sister-in-law Harriet Lonstein; his five great grandchildren Alexa, Grace, Lauryn, Bryce and Lionel who loved and adored him and Danica who added additional love, many nieces and nephews and Dan Couse for his unwavering love, support and friendship along with his family (Jen, Celia, Makenna) who Bernie was blessed to have in his life.

 

Bernard was predeceased by his wife of 69 years Minnie, his parents, and his sister Dorothy.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 12:00 pm at the Ezrath Israel Synagogue, 31 Center Street, Ellenville, NY.   Burial will immediately follow in the family plot at the Anshe Tzadyik Synagogue Cemetery, Route 209, Wawarsing, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Bernard’s honor to the Hudson Valley Hospice.
