Obituary of Marion Pollack Windt

Marion Pollack Windt, a resident of Liberty, NY passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018. Marion was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 31, 1924 to Elias and Anna Pollack. She attended Ferndale and Liberty Schools, and continued her education later in life, graduating from Orange County Community College with an A.S. degree and SUNY New Paltz with both a B.S. and M.S. degree. Marion taught elementary classes in Ellenville, Livingston Manor and Liberty Schools.

Her family bought the Keegan Farm on Swan Lake Road in 1920, which evolved into Pollack’s Hotel. The hotel was run by Marion, her parents, and her husband Irwin until it was sold in 1969.

Marion married Irwin Windt in 1946 when he was discharged from the U.S. Army. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Irwin, and her brother, Dr. A.J. Pollack. She leaves behind her children, Allan Windt, daughter Barbara Windt, grandson Eric Limpitlaw, granddaughter Bree Shaw, several nieces and nephews, great—grandchildren and many loving and caring friends.

Marion lived a very active life. She was a former member of the Livingston Manor Teachers’ Association, the Liberty Teachers’ Association and the Liberty P.T.A. She was a past co-president of the Community Garden Club of Liberty and a past president of the Liberty Museum, and the Sisterhood of Congregation Ahavath Israel. She served on boards of the Catskill Art Society and the Sullivan County C.P. Center. She was both a Girl Scout and a Cub Scout Leader. Marion was a former Village of Liberty Trustee. She was a life member of Hadassah and a former treasurer for the Liberty Hadassah.

A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Congregation Ahavath Israel Synagogue Cemetery, Hysana Road, Liberty, NY with Rabbi Simcha Zajac officiating.
