Paula and Jennie,
I wrote this a few weeks ago, just realized it never got sent. Maybe got stuck in a holding tank during a storm…??? I’m sorry I didn’t find it sooner. xoxoxo
After reading Sacha’s beautiful tribute following Jerome’s passing:
The words “consistancy” and “nourishing presence” fully express my recollection of Jerome.
I would see him intermittently at celebrations or community events over the years; always his warm and bright, direct eye contact, punctuated by his genuinely friendly smile.
It was obvious he loved to dance! His enjoyment of life and people always made me think of the quote from When Harry Met Sally “I’ll have what he’s having”!
More recently in our senior yoga classes, Jerome was always friendly, smiling and ready with a clever, subtle remark that would
make us all laugh between our moans and groans.
I visited Jerome’s garden once when it was still very new. The excited tone in the invitation to visit was so enthusiastic that I was expecting to be wowed by an impressive display of color and foliage. At first I wondered if I was in the right area as the blooms were so sparsely populated. I was instantly humbled when I realized the presence of Jerome’s love for this garden; the soil he had worked, the planting, watering, anticipating and then the shear joy of seeing the tender shoots peeking up, spreading roots, buds and blooms….. so innocent, so lovely.
I could taste the sweetness and share in the miracle and in that moment, I understood friendship and joy the way a child understands it.
I will be forever grateful to have been invited to Jerome’s garden and for knowing the same kindness and warmth in all of you, his wonderful, beautiful family.
Rest In Peace and Glory in God’s Garden, Jerome.

My wife Patricia and I send our deepest sympathy to Jerome’s family. He was an inspiration. I knew him through his work at the Seligmann Center where he was exemplary in offering his own time and in supporting everyone else’s projects. The surreal garden out back was always a work in progress, but it was a delight in every stage. His love and energy were apparent in everything he did. We are glad to have known him.
