Marilyn Gottlieb

Obituary of Marilyn Gottlieb

Plantation, FL - Formerly of Rock Hill, NY

Marilyn Alice (Cookie) Kahn – Gottlieb passed away peacefully on January 28, 2021 in Plantation, Florida.  The daughter of Ruth Fine Kahn and Maurice Kahn, she was born January 2, 1941 in Swampscott, MA. She attended Swampscott High School and then attended University of Miami where she met her husband of 60 years Howard Gottlieb on the steps of Hillel.  They fell in love and were married September 18, 1960.

While raising her daughter Cindy and son Alan, Marilyn helped out in the family business, the Rock Hill Trading Post, with her husband and his brother Marty.

Marilyn loved to play the piano, collect antiques, bowl, and fundraise.  In the early years of her life she would help to fundraise by entertaining (singing and play the piano and acting) at various organizations alongside her sister-in-law Harriet Gottlieb and her close friend Sylvia Schwartz and friend Judy McBride. They would entertain at the Rock Hill Fire Department and  St. Peters Church and called themselves “Three Rocks and a Stone”.    Her favorite place to entertain and fundraise was for Temple Shalom in the “More Guts than Talent Show”.   Years later she would sing, play piano, and entertain at nursing homes with Harriet , Sylvia and her dear friend Annette Hoffman, just for the fun of it.

In her later years Marilyn and Howie found a love of collecting and selling antique postcards and traveled all over the world buying and selling.  Their postcard adventures took them to England 48 times and to Paris 7 times.  She loved the postcard business, the traveling adventures and the common interest and partnership she shared with Howie.

Marilyn was known for her sense of humor and her ability to make even the smallest of children laugh… and sometimes cry!!  In her late 20’s Marilyn found out she had MS but she never ever slowed down or lost her sense of humor.  In 2010 she beat Uterine Cancer but in 2018 a stroke left her paralyzed on her right side and unable to fully form words.  Through it all she maintained her sense of humor.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents Ruth and Maurice Kahn, and her brother Bob Kahn, cousin Mary Watson, sister- in- law Harriet Gottlieb, brother-in-law Marty Gottlieb, sister-in-law Linda Gottlieb and niece Wendy Gottlieb.   She is survived by her husband: Howard Gottlieb, daughter: Cindy Deitchman, son: Alan Gottlieb (Shuhua);  grandsons: Josh, Shane, and Cory Deitchman; brother-in-law Leon Gottlieb (Rhonda); nephews Steven (Susan) and Gary Gottlieb; nieces Laura Carnell (Jimmy), and Dana Stanecek (Miro); surrogate daughter Mada Dunn, surrogate niece Cathy Hoffman, grand nieces and nephews and many… many friends.
