Ralph Liff

Obituary of Ralph Moses Liff

Bethel, NY

Ralph Moses Liff was born in Ohio on May 7, 1918 and passed on July 31, 2021 with his loving family by his side.  He moved with his family to the farm in Bethel when he was 1 year old.  There he grew up and stayed until now at the age of 103.

He was born into the dairy farm life, milking daily, cleaning the barn, haying the fields, all while working a full-time job at Quickway Metal in Monticello.  Ralph did whatever was needed to provide for his family the best he could.  This very busy life continued until he finally sold the cows and decided to retire from the farm.  At that time, he and his wife Lenore were able to start leading a more “normal life”.

They traveled, spent lots of time with their extensive family, and in his 90’s bought an apartment in Boca Raton, Florida. There they made a wonderful life.  They were always seen bustling about, keeping busy with activities at the clubhouse, and attending shows with their many friends.  An article was written in the Century Village paper titled “Are they Coming or Going?” highlighting the active life they lead.

Ralph spent 68 years married to Lenore before her death in 2016.  He then managed to stay busy and active at Century Village attending dances, sing along, movies, bingo, shows, and the gym every other day.  As a snow bird he returned to his home in Bethel where he mowed the lawn, drove the tractor in the fields, and weed whacked no matter what the weather.  One of his many pastimes which he actually enjoyed was collecting bottles for their deposit and save the money for Florida activities.  Ralph continuously gave back to his community in many ways.  He donated parcels of land to the synagogue and made land available for the local youth to use for Little League.  He was an active member in the congregation Temple Beth-El in Kauneonga Lake along with his family.  In addition, he was a lifetime member of the White Lake Fire Department since joining in 1954.

Ralph will be greatly missed by his son Ira Liff and wife Vivian, daughter Janice Gray Wasserman and her husband Tom. Grandchildren: Samantha Garchik and her husband Eric, Justin Gray and his wife Lindsay, Meredith Gray, Andrew Liff, and Great Grandchildren Julian and Ava Garchik.  Brother and Sister-in-law Bernard & Edith Hiller, many wonderful and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife Lenore, brother Ben, and sisters Ida and Rebecca.

The family would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and condolences. Funeral services will take place for immediate family to avoid public safety issues. A celebration in Ralph's honor will be held at a later date.

Donations in Ralph’s honor can be made to Temple Beth-El in Kauneonga Lake or to the White Lake Fire Department, White Lake NY.

Funeral arrangements are honorably entrusted to the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home - 845-794-7474 or www.josephngarlickfuneralhome.com.
