Obituary of Melvin Gitlin

Davie, FL and Masten Lake, NY 

Melvin Gitlin, 90, of Davie, FL, and Masten Lake, NY passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Garnet Orange Medical Center in Middletown, NY, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter. 

Born in Monticello, NY on December 6, 1931, to the late Claire Hoffman Gitlin and Murray H. Gitlin. Mel was a graduate of Monticello High School and Alfred State College. Always an entrepreneur, Mel was the owner of Gitlin‘s Super Market, Monticello, NY, Sackett Lake Lounge, Sackett Lake, NY, Knobby‘s Bar, Kiamesha Lake, NY, The Down Under Disco, Monticello, NY, and Florida Classic Closets, Hollywood, FL. He was also an Account Executive with The Rhulen Agency in Monticello, NY for a short time. 

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Joyce Salimeno Gitlin at home, his cherished children, Marc and Stacy Gitlin of Louisville, CO, and Riki and Ira Frankel of Davie, FL, and his treasured grandchildren Cory Frankel of Davie, FL, Lexi Frankel Garlaschi and Alex Garlaschi of Davie, FL and Kierra Gitlin of Louisville, CO along with his Nieces and Nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Evelyn Ilardi and brother Herbert Gitlin. 

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2022, 11:00am at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701 with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Temple Sholom Cemetery, South Woods Road, Monticello, NY.
