Mr. Nittel opened up a world of music for me. He encouraged me to learn as many instruments as I could, from Sousaphone to drums, because he never knew what hole he'd have to fill in the marching band. I often thought of him through years as a musician & radio DJ.

Fred...
It is because of you that I have gone on to be a musician. I cannot thank you enough for being a good mentor to a little kid from Roselle Park. I knew you were special even at my young age. It is not often that young people can think of or call their band director "hip". You defined it, and will always be remembered in that way.
And Keith, please know my thoughts and prayers are with your family. If it's any comfort, we can probably count on the fact that Fred and my Dad Mickey are already gigging. Keep fighting the good fight.

In our lives we are given the opportunity to meet some great people and hear their stories and get to know their lives. I can say in the time I have know Fred I have been given the gift of hearing his music and although only through recordings it was beautiful, and your life was much the same. I never saw you with a cross mood at anything in your life. I know that you are missed but never forgotten by those you loved or those who love you, that is what made you such a wonderful person to know and listen to. I am glad to have known you and I will miss seeing your smile no matter when or where I saw you. May we all be able to be surrounded by the love, warmth and friends that you have, may none of us ever forget what made you so special to so many.
Thank you letting me know you Fred.

Fred, you were, and always will be, more than my mother's husband and our step-father; You were our friend. You accepted us, watched us grow up, always had time to talk, and always stood by our side with unconditional love. Most importantly, you gave my mother 27 years of love, happiness and friendship. You were a world class and dignified musician, teacher, entertainer, friend, and human. It was, and always will be an honor to be your step-son. 27 years of NO regrets, and a lifetime of love, you will be very much missed, and will always be in my heart. Love always, Ira

Thank you for being more than a step father to me and for being such a wonderful PopPop and grandfather to my girls. You will be terribly missed and kept in our hearts. Your "Doll Baby" says "Nite Nite PopPop." We all love you and cherish the time you have spent here with us. Please watch over Mom and all of us.
