Obituary of Frederick Jacob Nittel

FREDERICK J. NITTEL MONTICELLO, NY Frederick J. Nittel of Monticello, NY peacefully entered into rest with his family at his side on Wednesday, January 23, 2008. He was 77 years old. Fred was born on January 9, 1931 in Easton, PA to Verlo and Jacob Nittel. Fred was a retired music teacher, copyist and arranger. He was an accomplished musician playing with orchestras and artists such the Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestras, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Frank Sinatra, Connie Francis, Paul Anka, Ben Vereen and many more as well performing in all of the Catskill resort hotel show bands. Fred also brought beautiful music to his country by serving in the United States Air Force as a member of the LADD Air Force band stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska earning the rank of Sergeant before receiving his honorable discharge in 1952. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Zena, his sons Lee Nittel and his wife Danette of Stewartsville, NJ, Keith Nittel and his wife Kate of Kansas City, MO. His step children Ira Walter and his wife Aimee, Michelle Sheerer and her husband James, Jeffrey Walter all of Monticello, NY and David Walter and his wife Cynthia of Highland Mills, NY. He was a loving Pop Pop and grandfather to Jake, Emily, Amanda, Rachael, Alyson, Tiffany, Alex and Andrew. He is also survived by his sisters Linda Albert and her husband Jim of St. Marys, GA and Marilyn Dennis and her husband Jerry of East Stroudsburg, PA as well as many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at 11am in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty, NY. The family will be sitting Shiva at the family home in Monticello.
