Obituary of Lia Driever

LIA DRIEVER WOODBOURNE, NY Lia Driever, a 50+ year resident of Woodbourne, passed away March 15, 2008 at the CRMC Skilled Nursing Unit in Harris, N.Y. She was 91 years old. Lia was a legal secretary for the Sullivan County District Attorneys office as well as the Grand Jury Stenographer, beginning when Lou Scheinman became the District Attorney and retiring in 1984 during Steve Lungens early years. Prior to this, she taught stenography classes and worked for Sullivan County Community College. Lia was born September 27, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY. She was the daughter of Julius and Rebecca Glass. Lia moved to the Catskills with her family in 1947. Her family owned and operated the River Tavern in Woodbourne. It was in Woodbourne where she met her husband, William Driever. They were married for over twenty years. Lia was an avid reader and a lover of art and music. She passed these interests on to her children, two of whom became professional musicians, two who drew and painted as a hobby, and all of whom shared her love of books. Lia lived her life for her children and grandchildren and will be missed by all of them. Lia is survived by two sons: William Driever and Peter Driever his wife Patty, one daughter: Lynne Porter her husband Steve, eight grandchildren: Justin, Carleigh, Julianne, Chantelle, Adam, Philip, Rebecca, and Alexandria, two nieces: Nancy and Amy, and one Nephew: Andrew. She was predeceased by her daughter, April Driever, who died in infancy, her son, Robert Felix Driever , who died in 1991, her brother, Rubin Glass, and her ex husband William. The family wishes to thank all of the Staff at the CRMC SNU unit for the love and care they gave to Lia in her last years. Funeral services will be held today, Monday, March 17, 2008 at 2pm in the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. 388 Broadway Monticello, NY. Rabbi M. Medwin will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, NY. Donations in honor of Lia can be sent to the Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County, PO Box 759 Monticello, N.Y. 12701.
