Obituary of Herbert Herbie Gold

Herb Gold South Fallsburg, NY Jan 13, 1942-April 3, 2011 Herb Gold has left the arena. Herbie died, on Sunday, April 3, 2011, following is nine month battle with cancer. He was surrounded by friends, family and loved ones, as he departed for his next engagement. Herbie will be remembered as a unique character, who brought his special brand of humor with him, regardless of the situation. The stories he leaves behind will bring smiles to faces for years to come. Herbie was born, January 13, 1942 in Monticello, NY. He was the son of the late Morris and Martha Gold. After graduating from Curry College in Massachusetts, Herbie returned to South Fallsburg, where he lived for the rest of his life. He was an owner of Sullivan Fire Protection Company. Herbie was a proud 50 year member of the Fallsburg Fire Department. He also belonged to the Fallsburg Lions Club, the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association and his favorite organization the Windmill Club. Herb is survived by his children, Ian, of South Fallsburg and Gillian of New York City. Other survivors include his brothers; Ira Gold and his wife Ruby of South Fallsburg, NY, and Jimmy Housman of Rock Hill, his sisters; Ellen Bresky and her husband Murray of South Fallsburg, Nikki Gold German and her husband Erik of Masten Lake and Suzie Gold of Masten Lake, his uncles: Harold and Raymond Gold of South Fallsburg and his former wife Carolyn Gold of Kiamesha Lake, and his special friends, Barbara Maschio, Bobby Kunis and Stuart Rosenberg. In addition he will be fondly remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews, former classmates and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of the Tucker Cancer Center and Hospice of Orange & Sullivan County during the last difficult weeks. Funeral services will be held today, Monday, April 4, 2011 at 1pm in the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. 388 Broadway Monticello, NY. Rabbi Yakoff Barros will officiate. Burial will be in the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Cemetery Marsh Rd. Glen Wild, NY. Donations in memory of Herbie may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family will be sitting shiva from after the funeral on Monday until Tuesday evening at the home of Ira and Ruby Gold in South Fallsburg. Funeral arrangements by Joseph N.
