Lydia Victoria (Kidder) Schor, born on Armistice Day, November 11, 1918 in Manhattan passed away at her home in Spring Glen on Saturday, May 23, 2015.
The daughter of the late Sam and Eva (Rosenblum) Kidder, Lydia graduated from Walton High School in the Bronx in 1937, and in 1939 married Edward Schor. Together they had two children, Fern and Richard, and in 1956 they moved to the family homestead in Spring Glen.
Lydia retired from the NYS Division of Parole after twenty years, was a founding member of the Eastern NY Federal Credit Union, a democratic committee woman, an election inspector (BOE District 10, Warwarsing) for over 40 years, and was nominated by the Democratic Party to run for the legislature in District 1, Ulster County. She was a member of the Eastern Star, an officer of the Hebrew Congregation of Spring Glen Synagogue, a member of the Ezrath Israel Congregation of Ellenville, a member of the Ellenville Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Lydia made many afghans and lap robes for family, friends, and nursing homes in the area. These along with her memory will be treasured.
Lydia is survived by her daughter, her son-in-law Robert, her granddaughters Laurie and Stephanie, her great-granddaughters Julia and Evelyn, and her sister Adele, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and many others. She was predeceased by her husband and her son.
A funeral service took place on Tuesday May 26, 2015 at 1:00PM at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc.- Congregation Ezrath Israel Center St. Ellenville, NY 12428. Burial followed in the Ezrath Israel Synagogue Cemetery, Route 209, Wawarsing.
