Obituary of Ronald S Siegel
Ronald Stewart Siegel, a long-time resident of Monticello, NY, passed away unexpectedly on March 19, 2016 at the age of 81.
Ronald was born on June 22, 1934 to Leon and Miriam Siegel in Brooklyn, NY. He moved to Monticello at the age of 15 where he became a lifelong resident. He was the business owner of Oakley Dry Cleaners, worked at the Monticello Raceway and Kohls Distribution Center, and volunteered as a first responder for the Monticello Ambulance Corps. At different times in his life Ronald served in leadership positions with the Masonic Service Association and the Knights of Pythias.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Myra Siegel (Ziporkin); his children Jeffrey Siegel and wife Kathy, Barry Siegel and wife Donna, and Lisa McGrain (Siegel) and husband David; his sister Jane Slater, his nephew, his eight grandchildren; and many close friends.
Ronald met his wife, Myra Ziporkin, at Monticello High School where they later graduated from. After graduating in 1952, Ronald was drafted by the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. He often talked nostalgically about the time he and his wife spent in Europe during his time in the service.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Siegel came back to his hometown of Monticello to work with his father in their family business. While running the business he also worked as a cashier at the Monticello Raceway for their VIP customers. He took tremendous pride in his professional life and valued the friends he made during these years.
There was nothing that Ronald valued more than his family. Whenever he gloated about his grandchildren you would see his infectious smile and hear his distinctive laugh. He always wanted to know what his children and grandchildren were up to and had a tendency just to show up or call out of the blue. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
