Obituary of Jack S. Ingber
Jack S. Ingber, a life-long resident of South Fallsburg, New York, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 90, on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Jack was born in 1925 in Brooklyn, New York.
A graduate of New York University Law School in 1951, after having attended undergraduate studies at Harvard and Columbia Universities, Jack Ingber lead a successful law practice in Monticello, New York, first associated with the law firm of Weiss & Costa, and then, ultimately, as a founding partner with his son, Keith Ingber, of Ingber & Ingber. His practice specialized in trusts & estates, business transactions and commercial and personal injury litigation, both in the tri-state area and nationally. Jack was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps. Besides his law practice, Jack was an active community leader, serving as President of the Fallsburg Central School District, as a member of the South Fallsburg Fire Department and his local VFW chapter, and was the founding chairman of the Community Bank of Sullivan County. His community leadership reached into politics as well: in 1956, Jack served as campaign manager for Pulitzer Prize winner Bill Mauldin’s unsuccessful congressional campaign for a seat in the US Congress, and in the early 1990s, Jack was a leader in the legislative fight to pass a New York constitutional amendment permitting casino gaming in the Catskills as necessary to reinvigorate the region’s economy; he anticipated by decades the current law allowing gaming.
He was a wonderful and loving husband to Shirley Ingber, his wife of many years, who predeceased him in 2003; and father to his son, Keith, and daughter, Audrey Ingber Bender, as well as his six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, all who survive him.
