Obituary of Ethel Carnel
Ethel Carnel of Youngsville, New York passed away on Tuesday, August 28th, 2012 at the Northern Westchester Hospital. Ethel was born in Grodno, Lithuania-Poland on December 8th, 1922, and arrived in Boston via the Marina Fletcher with her husband and daughter in 1949. She lived in Sullivan County, New York for most of her life. She departs from her beloved daughters, Barbara Winston and Rozalyn Weiss; her five grandchildren, Gordon Winston, Randall Batinkoff, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, Brandon Weiss, and Devon Weiss; and her six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler, and Alexi Wolkoff, Leyla and Niki Winston, and Isabel Lambert Batinkoff. She was predeceased by her daughter, Dr. Shirley Carnel of Aspen, Colorado, who died in 1998.
Ethel was a force of strength that enriched the lives of all those she knew and loved. She will be remembered every day for her kind heart towards her family, friends, and those she met along the way, her brilliance as a business woman, and her steadfastness through all of life's journeys. Ethel was unrelentingly generous in every possible way. She cared for her siblings and worked from a young age. A Holocaust survivor of the brutalities at both Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen, Ethel defined resilience and expounded on its necessity. After the war, she and her husband, the late Joel Carnel, created and managed a successful business in upstate New York.
Ethel unconditionally loved, inspired, and motivated her family, friends, and loved ones to be kind, strong, and successful. She was honest and fair and was never without advice or an important life lesson. It is without question that her legacy will continue to impact the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.
Her funeral service will be held at 5 pm on Wednesday, August 29th, 2012 at the Ahavath Israel Cemetery, Ha-Sa-Na Road, in Liberty with Rabbi David Kaye.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home of Monticello. For further service details, to leave an online condolence, or for directions to the cemetery, please visit www.josephngarlickfuneralhome.com
