Obituary of Sarah Dole
Sarah (“Seckie”) Dole, a longtime resident of Ellenville, NY, died peacefully at the age of 93 on June 21, 2017 at Aaron Manor in Chester, CT. Sarah, the daughter of Allen and Rose Silberman, was born on August 16, 1923 in Hurleyville, NY. She graduated from Hurleyville High School and married the love of her life, Sol Dole, on Nov 1, 1942. The coupled settled in Ellenville where they raised their two children Jody and William. Sarah was the beloved wife of the late Sol Dole and worked at his side in their local grocery store business in Ellenville and later as a manager at the Ellenville National Bank. She retired 20 years later and moved to Riverdale, NY.
Sarah was a devoted mother to her two sons Jody and William who expressed their feelings with sentiments all mothers would hope to hear: “Mom, all your life, you gave us so much and asked for so little. Thank you for being a constant source of love and kindness and of strength and wisdom. We are so grateful to you and dad for teaching us about values, empathy and respect for others and the importance of family and friends. And thank you for teaching us that happiness is not about wealth and fame or personal achievement, but about meaningful relationships”.
Sarah was a treasured sister to Sonia Weinstein of Riverdale,NY, the late Ann Kapito and her brother William (“Wiilie”) who died defending his country in World War II. Sarah was a beloved grandmother to Elyssa DeChiazza-Dole, Adam Dole and to Brandon and Sam Dole. Sarah was a life long member of the Congregation Anshe Tzadik (Ellenville, NY) and Hadassah, and a member of the Eastern Stars and Women’s Organization of the Lion’s Club of Ellenville. Sarah’s immediate surviving family members include her children Jody and William, their wives Abbe and Francine, her four grandchildren Elyssa Dechiazza-Dole, Adam Dole, Sam and Brandon Dole and her nieces and nephews Marcia, Donna and Jerry Kreitzer, Arlene, Richard and Steven Weinstein and Billy, Hy and Robert Kapito.
A funeral service was held at the Anshe Tzadik Synagogue on June 23, 2017 attended by family and friends and presided over by Rabbi Moshe Frank. Sarah was buried at the Anshe Tzadik Cemetery in Wawarsing next to her beloved husband Sol.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from family members and friends and the Aaron Manor nursing and administrative staff and Hospice.
